Dear AmCham Abu Dhabi Friends,
Welcome to our 2nd Quarter newsletter. Hope everyone is keeping safe and working hard to manage the ever-changing and fluid situation surrounding our world.
We successfully hosted a virtual live event Rock the Vote: A Celebration of American Heroes to celebrate July 4th in a socially distanced manner. Our gathering honored the heroes in military, education, and healthcare who all raised the importance of getting registered to vote. Enjoy the event overview as well as the link to watch the recording.
Legislators in DC are continuing their efforts in formulating policies to handle the economic and public health fall out from Covid-19 and address issues surrounding social and civil justice. Our committee member, Kathleen Mistry, has discussed the highlights from the updates received by Williams & Jensen, as well as her own observations.
In the recently enacted tax reform bill, territorial based corporate taxation was introduced to make American corporations more competitive abroad. Our committee member, Yassin Yassin, discusses the idea of why the same should be offered to individuals by way of Residence Based Taxation (RBT). This policy should be considered if we wish to retain our economic advantage in the globe. Our committee is studying an approach and gathering allies to raise this issue as part of our US advocacy efforts.
Lastly, we are excited to announce the growth of our committee with the addition of Leslie Bellas and Rula Dajani. Experienced board members of AmCham Abu Dhabi who will be adding to the existing strength of our committee. Our committee member, Gary Rosholt, was recently elected to the Board as Member-at-Large, and will now serve as Committee Chair and act as the direct conduit for the Committee and the Board.
We hope you enjoy this quarter's issue. Do not hesitate to reach out to us with your feedback on our newsletter or to inquire about joining our fun committee. Our committee always works by our three pillars: Information Flow, Patriotism, and Trusted Friendship.
Regards,
Gary Rosholt
